Important Update Regarding ESA Student Participation in LHUSD Athletics
Recently, the Governing Board approved an athletic participation fee for ESA students who wish to participate in Lake Havasu Unified School District athletics.
Since that decision, the district has received additional guidance from the Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA) regarding student eligibility. While the Governing Board has the authority to establish a participation fee, the district must also comply with all AIA eligibility rules.
Under current AIA regulations:
• ESA students who are educated at home (homeschool) may be eligible to participate in LHUSD athletics, provided they meet all AIA eligibility requirements.
• ESA students who are enrolled in another school—including private, religious, charter, online, or other educational programs—are not eligible to participate in LHUSD athletics under AIA rules.
As a member of the AIA, LHUSD students have the opportunity to compete in interscholastic athletics, including regional and state championship competitions. Maintaining our membership requires strict adherence to AIA eligibility rules. Failure to comply could result in penalties, including forfeiture of contests or disqualification from postseason competition.
To ensure compliance with all AIA requirements, LHUSD will review each request for athletic participation from ESA and homeschool students on an individual basis in consultation with our AIA representative.
We appreciate your understanding as we work to provide opportunities for students while ensuring the district remains in full compliance with AIA regulations.

Beginning July 1, 2026, the Arizona Healthy Schools Act (A.R.S. §15-242.01) is now in effect for all Arizona public schools.
This new law helps support healthier school environments by limiting certain ultra-processed foods and ingredients during the school day. We’ve put together this quick guide to help make packing lunches, snacks, and classroom celebrations a little easier!
📌 Highlights:
✅ Approved snack and lunch ideas
🚫 Ingredients that are no longer permitted in foods served or sold at school
🎉 Classroom birthday treats must also follow these guidelines
🥪 Families are still welcome to pack lunches and snacks from home
Thank you for partnering with us to keep our Crocs healthy, happy, and ready to learn! 💚🐊
Be Kind. Be Respectful. Be Jamie! 💚
